Mary Ousley Owen, MA

Psychotherapist

Mary Ousley (MO) Owen resides in Nashville, TN and holds a Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Belmont University. She grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and art at The University of Mississippi. Mary Ousley is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and young adults seeking connection, balance, self-awareness, and healing when facing emotional struggles, school-related issues, relationship challenges, behavioral issues, life-transitions, and self-esteem. She believes healing can be found through healthy connection to other human beings, connection to nature and creativity, and the ability to sit with emotional comfort and discomfort. She strives to create an authentic, trustworthy, and safe environment for change, growth and healing, and aims to form connections that honor and embrace the unique personalities, struggles, and strengths, each person brings to the space.

Mary Ousley works through a primarily person-centered approach, integrating art in therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Strength-Based Therapy. She believes that art-based modalities can be incredibly revealing for all ages by allowing space for self-exploration, empowerment, and inner-connection and for releasing and expressing feelings when words are not accessible, easily expressed, or when language skills are not fully developed. Mary Ousley understands that, especially when working with children and adolescents, incorporating creativity into the therapeutic setting, and into a child’s life is essential for their development, particularly when behavioral, mental, or emotional concerns are present.

Mary Ousley is honored to sit with all individuals and provide a safe space to feel seen, heard, and understood in every stage of their life. In her free time, Mary Ousley enjoys creating artwork, watching binge-worthy tv shows, working out, spending time with her friends and family, enjoying all things nature and animals, and cheering on her Ole Miss Rebs.
