Jay Rutherford
Psychotherapist
Jay Rutherford, originally from Chicago, now resides in Nashville as a Pre-Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Education-Counseling Degree from Lindsey Wilson College. A Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Literature from DePaul University in Chicago enriches his therapeutic approach.
For two decades, Jay chased success in the music industry, navigating the complex dynamics of being in a band while working at restaurants to pay the bills. Through years of songwriting, touring, and self-discovery, Jay's personal therapy journey redirected him towards counseling. His clinical style is infused with a unique blend of Nashville spirit and creative insight, as a lifetime of being on stages and serving tables provides a rich well of experiences and patterns to draw from and intuit. He firmly believes that most of our suffering comes when we attempt to meet healthy needs in unhealthy ways, and that the cave we fear to enter holds the treasure we seek...
Despite the career transition, Jay maintains his passion for music, showcasing guitar skills through songwriting and occasional gigs. He loves hot yoga, Star Wars, video games, and the simple pleasure of mowing his lawn on the weekend.
